Jesus T. grew up in a gang ridden neighborhood in Santa Ana. He was not directly involved himself but the environment negatively affected him. He began drinking at a young age and got a DUI at 19 years old. When he had his first daughter at 21, Jesus knew he needed to take the steps to stay out of trouble and obtain quality employment.
He began working odd jobs here and there to support his family. “After we had our second daughter, I felt pressure to find stable employment that would allow me to support my family,” Jesus recalls. At 24, he learned about Hope Builders from a friend and decided to enroll since he’s always been interested in construction.
Jesus excelled in the structured environment and was selected by Hope Builders’ employment partner, 24HRC, for a paid internship to put his skills training to work. His work ethic and skills impressed his supervisor so much that he was recently offered full-time employment. He now makes $15/hr and enjoys the work he does.
